Last year in Berlin I met a man who lived in a shed behind an abandoned building. He kept himself occupied by tearing apart old electronic equipment with a screwdriver and a small axe. When I asked what he was doing it for, he yelled “Schrott!” and laughed.

He had collected a lot of scrap indeed. Other than old stereos and computer monitors, his collection seemed to focus on dolls, garden gnomes and other humanlike inanimate objects.

Baby Dee is an Ohio-born legend of the New York scene, who I met briefly two years ago. A transsexual former lumberjack and church organist. The Telegraph has described her music as “An exquisite blend of Tom Waits and Judy Garland [...] the missing link between Bertolt Brecht and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Listen here.

Pille is a Danish designer who just graduated from Designskolen Kolding. Her line of accessories is inspired by the Swedish rally driver Greta Molander.

Holly Golightly has released 18 albums in her name, the last two with The Brokeoffs. She was in the all-female group Thee Headcoatees and she sang a duet with Jack White on The White Stripes album Elephant.

I first met her after her show in Copenhagen last year.
